As more evidence is leaked, a rough time frame has been established. Below are some of the first entities to learn of Senator Menendez and his alleged actions in the Dominican Republic. Correspondence shows that as early as May of last year, the Senate Ethics Committee had been informed of the scandal.
A copy of the original email to a Carrie Levine, from Peter Williams, indicates CREW was informed on April 9th, 2012
On May 4th, 2012, Peter Williams indicates to CREW that he had previously sent an email to the Senate Ethics Committee on Senator Robert Menendez’s actions in the Dominican Republic. He does not specify the date of the email.
In its official letter to the FBI and U.S. Justice Department, CREW informs both groups that they connected Mr. Williams to producer at ABC News on May 10th, 2012.
Assistant Director in Charge, James W. McJunkin of the FBI is informed in an official letter from CREW’s executive director, Melanie Sloan, on July 17th, 2012.
Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer of the U.S. Department of Justice is simultaneously informed along with the FBI on July 17th, 2012.
