World War II Vet’s House Vandalized, Community Rallies

It’s safe to say that as teenagers and young adults we all made some questionable decisions that we now regret. Whether it was sneaking out of the house at night to tee-pee a neighbor’s house, throwing eggs at passing cars, or even seriously damaging or vandalizing property, we did some stupid stuff. Seems like a simple, practical joke today, doesn’t it? Well there is clearly a line that should never be crossed, and it would appear that a group of young adults in Houston, Texas have found it.

Ninety-three-year-old Elbert Wood, a Houston resident and highly decorated World War II veteran, returned from a doctor’s appointment to find the interior and exterior of his home vandalized with spray paint, leaving the quaint building in complete shambles.

Thankfully, the outraged, local community has rallied around Mr. Wood, rushing to his aide – the damage was fixed within 24 hours of the incident after forty United States Marines and an army of contractors showed up at his house to help with repairs.

Just goes to show the kind of power that comes when people work together to turn a wrong into a right.
