Though he’s only 21 years old, professional tennis player Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria has already had to endure attention for all the wrong reasons. Since coming onto the tour, he has been branded with the nickname “Baby Federer”- which has inevitably and unfairly, many would say, compared him to the Living Legend.
And recently he began dating an older woman that has garnered him more attention for his personal life than his tennis. And not just any woman.

Yesterday, however, Dimitrov changed all that when he downed World #1 Novak Djokovic in the 2nd round of the Mutua Madrilena Masters Tournament on red clay. The match was a gritty, sweaty, bloody display between the two consummate athletes that lasted until almost midnight.
Gettin’ dirty
Injuries, cramps (both physical and mental) and swings of momentum defined this match up, but in the end it was the underdog who found the best tennis when it mattered.
Maybe now “Baby Federer”/”Maria Sharapova’s boyfriend” will now simply be referred to as Grigor Dimitrov…
