President Obama has protested claims that Obamacare cut Medicare’s funding by even a penny. Fact-checkers like Factcheck.org, Politifact, and Bloomberg News said that Romney and the GOP’s claim that Obamacare cuts Medicare by $500B.
The Obama campaign has recently been everywhere on the issue as the Romney campaign has continued to highlight it against the protest of Sunday morning media pundits.
Turns out it was $716B for future Medicare funding-and it is true. And unlike the Ryan plan, President Obama’s cut is for seniors today.
Did the fact-checkers read the bill?
All three of those so-called 'fact checking' organizations (Factcheck.org, Politifact, and Bloomberg News) are left-wing, with their own axes to grind. Factcheck.org is part of the Annenberg Public Policy Center; Obama sat on the Annenberg of Chicago Board for years... as did Bill Ayers. Politifact was started by the Tampa Bay Times in conjunction with the Congressional Quarterly, both liberal papers. Politifact's stories are about equal in number as far as Republican/Democrat, but harm Republicans far more than Democrats. Bloomberg News... well, Newsweek... what more need I say?
When I'm fact-checking I try to go to as many as I can, hoping to get the right information. Unfortunately, as with the above, many, such as Snopes are unreliable. Truthorfiction.com seems to be the only one that can be counted on reliably.
