New Senate Ranking Member

US Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS)

The AP reports that Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) has just been named the ranking member on the Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet.  Wicker, they say is making expanding broadband internet access to rural areas a priority.

During the SOPA/PIPA legislation controversy Wicker called for a moderate “consensus” bill but never went into great detail about what that would look like.  Should the Republicans win back the Senate, Wicker’s chairmanship of this committee could have major impact on this and other copyright legislation.
