The New York Mets aren’t expected to have a great year, but the team will at least have one lucky charm sitting on the bleachers every fifth day. Leah Niese, new wife of Mets opening day starter Jon Niese, told the New York Post that she wears the same blue pair of Mets panties in all of Niese’s starts, because she is the “superstitious one” in the relationship.

The couple was married in January, but Leah has worn the panties in every start her husband has pitched during their three-year relationship. In the last three years Niese has gone 9-10 with a 4.20 ERA, 11-11 with a 4.40 ERA and 13-9 with a 3.40 ERA. Not bad. But definitely not ace material.

But now that the couple is married, the Nieses hope that the panties take “getting lucky” to a whole new level.
