GOP Candidate’s Son Says He Won’t Support Mark Sanford

CHARLESTON, S.C.
Daniel Bostic, the son of Republican congressional candidate Curtis Bostic, took to Twitter to make clear that he won’t support former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, who won the GOP nomination in Tuesday’s 1st District runoff election.

“No — I will not be supporting Mark Sanford] in any way,” the young Bostic tweeted shortly after news organizations called the race for Sanford. The 20-year-old actor said that he could not “vote for a man who lacks character.”

Sanford was censured by the South Carolina state legislature and fined $74,000 for ethics violation in the aftermath of the 2009 sex scandal in which the former governor, after telling his staff that he was hiking on the Appalachian Trail, admitted to traveling to Argentina for an adulterous affair with Maria Belen Chapur. Sanford won Tuesday’s Republican runoff with 57 percent of the vote to defeat Curtis Bostic, a Marine Corps veteran and former Charleston City council member.
