Anthony Weiner Returns to Twitter

With three hours safely under Anthony Weiner‘s belt, the former congressman who is now not-so-secretly vying to be the next Mayor of New York City has two tweets and just over 2,800 brand-new followers on his account, @anthonyweiner.

The account was apparently created on January 3rd of this year.

Weiner and his wife Huma Abedin have recently been courting press in an attempt to recast the ex-congressman’s scandal-stained image. In an interview with the New York Times, Weiner made his theme that of second chances. Just a week ago, he re-released a book of his ideas for the New York City entitled, “Keys to the City,” revealing his intentions behind the comeback attempt.

But Weiner’s not letting go of his old account, @RepWeiner, which tweeted (or was it a subtweet?) simply, “@anthonyweiner,” signaling to those 67,766 followers that a new account had been created for them to now follow.

According to the Twitter analytics site Twtrland.com, 55% of @RepWeiner’s followers are women. One can only wonder how many women will wait for that promising follow-back (his new account is following no one at this time) and that fateful direct message.
