Koalas Hit Hard by Venereal Disease Epidemic

Usually when you hear the word, “endangered,” most people think of poaching and commodities such as fur or ivory. Koalas, on the other hand, are in danger for an entirely different reason. Apparently, Koalas are in serious danger of Chlamydia outbreaks. According to BBC:

In people, chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease. A different strain infects koalas, but it too can be spread sexually, and it’s causing a devastating epidemic. In some parts of Australia, koala infection rates are as high as 90%….

Maybe Koalas are getting too frisky watching animal porn, or maybe they’re just getting too close to One Direction:
