The Associated Press is reporting that Richard Swanson, 42, was struck and fatally killed by a truck in Lincoln City, Oregon while attempting to dribble a soccer ball from Seattle to Sao Paulo, Brazil on Tuesday, May 14th.
Swanson was using the 10,000 mile journey as a way to unofficially promote the One World Futbol Project - an initiative that donates soccer balls to people in developing countries.
According to one YouTube video below, Swanson talks about why he was making the journey. “I felt like I was doing what I should be doing. This was the next leg of my life,” Swanson said.
People doing good is often under-celebrated and Swanson’s untimely demise is an absolute tragedy. Our thoughts are with Swanson, his family, and his friends.
