The unquestioned star of Friday’s House Ways and Means Committee hearing about the IRS scandal was Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Kelly. The Republican congressman ripped into former IRS acting commissioner Steven Miller, saying “the American people should be outraged — and they are” about the federal tax agency’s abuses, recently exposed by an Inspector General’s report. By the time Kelly was finished, the committee chairman had to bang the gavel to end the spontaneous applause.
