A massive F-4 tornado- the second most powerful grade such a storm can receive- ripped through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday morning, leveling whole neighborhoods and crumpling every truck, shed, and tree in its path.
Over 120 people are reportedly being treated at local hospitals; among them are at least 70 children. The small community in the city of Moore saw the most devastation,with an elementary school there flattened into the ground with students and teachers still inside. Rescuers found 7 small children drowned in a pool of water and suspect at least a half dozen more have been killed. In total, officials confirm 51 people have died, with that number expected to grow as the night goes on.
Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin spoke with President Obama earlier today after deploying 80 National Guard members to assist with search-and-rescue efforts in the affected areas.
