Remember these guys? You know, the band who sings on treadmills?

Well since they gave us one of the first viral videos of the YouTube era, they have continued to push the limits of creativity and entertainment with other music videos: using a Chevy Sonic as a musical instrument, singing through and around a gigantic Rube Goldberg machine, and wearing colorful track suits stop-motion through a park.

Their newest offering comes not in the form of a video but a free smartphone app called “Say The Same Thing“. Based on the type of “icebreaker” activity you might do at a camp or retreat, the object is simple: two different people say two random words, hoping to say the same thing at the same time. If you don’t guess correctly at first, you adjust and guess again, trying to “land” in the middle of the previous two guesses. The band put out an informational video that explains the idea:

Mark Wilson from Co.Design explains the unique appeal of this simple concept:

“It’s more than shocking for two people to choose the same word out of the 171,476 words in the English language. It’s special and personal, even when it’s silly fun. When my wife and I loaded the app for the first time, in our very first round, she tossed out the word “butt.” I typed “butthole.” Not a perfect match right off the bat, but pretty darn close, especially considering that we don’t have some inside joke about butts.”

It’s not only a fun concept, but it also speaks to the creativity that our modern technology can foster. After all, this was thought up by a guitarist in a band! So go download it and impress all your friends at the next party you go to. As an example, I posted my first game below:

As you can see, I guessed “Pizza”, they guessed “Apple”…who would have guessed we would both say “luau” in only three turns?! It really does seem magical - but don’t take my word for it, try it yourself:
