ViralRead Fantasy Football 2013 Draft Kit: TE Rankings

Alas, RANKINGS! We will go over the rankings by position starting with the TE position.

I will not do rankings of Defense and Kickers, we will do an advice column on that.

About the rankings, these are rankings of standard 12 team non-PPR leagues.

My Thoughts:

This year, I believe there are kind of 5 tiers at Tight End. 1- Jimmy Graham, 2- Gronk, 3- Gonzo-Vernon Davis-Witten, 4- A clump til 16, and 5- everyone else.

Understanding my view of these clumps is important, because the difference between number 6 and number 16 isn’t as great as the numbers suppose. So, keep that in mind when using these rankings. I think that Kyle Rudolph (6) could very well be flipped with Dustin Keller (16) at the end. These are just my best attempt at rankings.

1. Jimmy Graham, NOS - Tier 1 -

This kind of goes without saying. It is well established that I have a Jimmy Graham or bust strategy. His ADP is mid to low second round, so, a lot of other people seem to agree with this summation. He is an excellent option, and even becomes more valuable in PPR leagues.

2. Rob Gronkowski, NEP- Tier 2 -

This is a vast unknown. Obviously, he will drop a few slots if he is PUPed for the beginning of the season (minimum 6 games). But considering the forthrightness of the New England Patriots in regards to medical issues *snark*, you won’t know this before your draft. So, I am ranking with the assumption of missing 1-3 games. 12 games of Gronk is still better than any other tight end save Graham.

3. Tony Gonzales, ATL - Tier 3 -

He was a stud last year and he will be a stud this year. Matt Ryan has a LOT of weapons, but Tony is a wonderful red-zone target.

4. Vernon Davis, SFO- Tier 3 -

I believe Vernon’s chemistry issues with Kaepernick are over. I believe he will be a solid option down the seam and in the flat and red zone targets will come because of a missing Crabtree, Kaepernick’s safety valve.

5. Jason Witten, DAL- Tier 3 -

If you are in a PPR league, I would move Jason up one slot. I think the Cowboys offense will hum and a large cog of that will be Witten.
