Facebook Adds Embedded Posts

Facebook announced another move into Twitter turf today: Soon, public Facebook posts will be embeddable on third party websites and blogs.  Visitors to the third party site will be able to immediately like, share, and comment on embedded posts.  Just like on Facebook, post content can include pictures and video as well as text.

The rollout will be limited to a handful of big websites, including CNN, Huffington Post, People, and Mashable.  There’s no clear timetable for broader availability.

If you are scoring at home, this is the social network’s third announcement this summer that encroach’s on Twitter’s turf.  Facebook announced support for searchable hashtags in posts and status updates in part to capitalize on public discussions of things like television events.  Facebook-owned Instagram announced video support later in the month in an obvious dig at Twitter’s Vine.
