Secret budget figures leaked to the Washington Post by Edward Snowden show the CIA and the NSA had planned “offensive cyber operations” to hack into foreign networks. Â There were also plans for the NSA to investigate approximately 4,000 situations where sensitive information was compromised by an internal source.
The document, which was written for Congressional committees but not for general distribution, also includes information about the status of American intelligence programs, noting key lapses and challenges.
The secret spy budget calls for $52.6 billion for the 2013 budget year, which concludes at the end of September.
