The Supreme Court has had a busy week, handing down two major decisions that have whipped talking heads into a frenzy. DOMA’s repeal was widely celebrated by the public and stole the spotlight from the much more divisive changes to the Voting Rights Act, which were announced just days before. In a 5-4 ruling, SCOTUS challenged Congress to update voting laws in southern states.
Justice Anthony Kennedy writes majority decision in 5-4 ruling. Justice Antonin Scalia declares gay-marriage decision an affront to ‘We the People.’
With years of technology under our belt since the Voting Rights Act passed, what does Tuesday’s SCOTUS decision change?
The Supreme Court ruled against protests on court grounds this week in a decision at odds with that of the DC circuit.
A group calling themselves the “Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry” has written a letter to the RNC asking voting members to reject the recent resolution draft which condemns same-sex marriage and “. . .implores the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the sanctity of marriage in its rulings on California’s Proposition 8 and the Federal Defense of Marriage Act.” Prominent figures as S.E. Cupp and Meghan McCain among others […]
In a Gallup poll released today, a sample of Democrats, Republicans, and independents reported that their main issue with the right is the party’s ‘inflexibility.’ Perhaps riding a wave of public sentiment following last week’s highly publicized same-sex marriage debates before the Supreme Court, the poll drudges up a tired critique of the GOP: they’re all wrinkly, wealthy, white guys who refuse to change with the times. Whether you are against it or for it, there is little doubt as to which side of the same-sex marriage debate is winning the new media battle. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts all over the nation are lighting up in support of same-sex marriage as the Supreme Court listens to arguments over the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Junior U.S. Senator from New […]

Today the Supreme Court will hear arguments on Proposition 8 which banned same-sex marriage in California. Meanwhile, gay marriage is playing out on arguably a larger stage. Cleveland Browns linebacker, Scott Fujita took to the New York Times to argue his case in favor of same-sex marriage. I support marriage equality for so many reasons: my father’s experience in an internment camp and the racial intolerance his family experienced during […]
The US Supreme Court today is hearing oral arguments against the constitutionality of California Proposition 8, passed in 2008. Prop 8 changed the constitution of California to state that “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California” and was passed by a state ballot initiative by 600,00 votes or 4.5%. An all-star tag-team of lawyers are arguing against the proposition. David Boies, who represented […]
