Young America’s Foundation hosted a luncheon for young people at CPAC today with guest speaker Katie Pavlich. In front of a room of more than 100 young conservative activists, Pavlich gave a presentation called “Fully Loaded: Why Guns Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”
Pavlich began by pointing out the inefficiencies of gun control and its lack of effect on the number of gun-related crimes annually. She explained that the cities with arguably the strictest gun control, Chicago and Washington, D.C., have some of the highest murder rates in the country. Contrary to liberal views, conservatives don’t believe that criminals follow laws, which therefore makes outrageous gun control legislation nothing more than a power grab to take firearms from law-abiding citizens and leave them virtually defenseless against criminals who are empowered by their victims’ lack of defense.
“There’s no such thing as an assault weapon; unless, of course, you’re using it to assault someone.” After suggesting that we also ban “assault knives” and “assault hammers” and “assault hands,” Pavlich shared the story of Amanda Collins, a young rape survivor who was brutally raped and nearly killed by a male attacker. The attack occurred when she was attending the University of Nevada-Reno and happened only 50 feet away from the campus security office. Call boxes and 911 calls didn’t help Amanda Collins, Pavlich stated.
One of the most striking statements Pavlich made was this: ”More guns in the hands of the right people, and law-abiding citizens, will equal less crime.”
