Meme: Was It Ed Markey or Al Gore Who Basically Invented the Internet?

Everybody laughed in March when Massachusetts Senate candidate Ed Markey tried to take credit for the development of famous Internet properties like Google, Amazon, eBay, Facebook and Twitter. It seemed like a comical reminder of former Vice President Al Gore‘s claim that he deserved credit for the invention of the Internet. But then Markey, a 66-year-old Democrat who has been in Congress since Jimmy Carter was president, made his claims of having promoted technological innovation the centerpiece of a new TV ad in his campaign against Republican Gabriel Gomez.

Thanks to Markey’s invention of the Twitter “hashtag,” Americans are learning more and more about what was #InventedByEdMarkey. But what would Al Gore say about this?
