BREAKING: REPORTS OF GUNMAN LOOSE ON URI CAMPUS UPDATE: False Alarm, University Officials Say

Beginning just after noon on Thursday, April 4th, reports were coming out of the URI Campus that there is a gunman on the loose.

So far, nothing has been confirmed, but the University of Rhode Island’s official website has the emergency alert posted advising all students to stay indoors until the situation has been evaluated.

“It’s just a threat we have right now. We have no confirmation of anything,” said a university police dispatcher.

UPDATE: The Boston Globe now reports:

The University of Rhode Island and law enforcement authorities said a report of an active shooter on its South Kingstown campus was a false alarm. An investigation revealed that “at no time was there a gun or an active shooter on the campus,” Rhode Island State Police Frank B. Castallone said.
