Word was circulating on the internet last night that Cory Monteith, who played awkwardly charming Finn Hudson on Fox’s musical comedy-drama television show ‘Glee’ since it’s debut in 2009, had died.

Those who heard the chatter refused to believe it and were hoping it was just a false rumor, a celebrity death hoax.

Vancouver police confirmed in a statement last night that it was true.

Cory Monteith was found dead last night at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver. He had missed his check out time so the staff went to check on him and that’s when they discovered his body.

The police stated that he had been dead for a while before he was found.

A cause of death has not been announced but we do know Cory Monteith had been struggling with drug addicion. He had spoken very candidly about his addiction to drugs and said in an interview with Parade Magazine in June of 2011, that he had been using since the age of 13. He had said in the article that he was a seriously troubled youth and that he was lucky to be alive.  After his mom and friends staged an intervention, he went to rehab for the first time at the age of 19. When asked if he was struggling to stay clean, he said “No, I just redouble my efforts on what I’m doing.”

He surprised many when he voluntarily admitted himself into a treatment facility for substance addiction earlier this year.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Condolences to his family and friends.

As a fan myself, I’m heartbroken. ‘Glee’ will never be the same again.
