#MarchMadness: Louisville Ladies Can’t Sweep - UCONN Takes Home Eighth Title

Louisville’s feel-good run game to an end last night at the hands of the UCONN Lady Huskies who dominated the floor, beating the Cardinals 93-60 - the largest margin of victory ever in a women’s title game.

UCONN Coach Geno Auriemma tied retired U. of Tennessee coach Pat Summitt for most championships by a women’s program with eight apiece. They now share second place in overall titles behind UCLA’s legendary John Wooden who won ten.

The Huskies were led by freshman superstar Breanna Stewart, the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award winner. Stewart was on fire, scoring 23 points with nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocked shots. Stewart has been a force of nature in the Final Four, making a stunning 61 percent of her shots.

Louisville, who had an unlikely run to the big game, came up short in their valiant effort to sweep the Division 1 championships in basketball. The Louisville men’s team defeated Michigan the night before.
