Former IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman made an appearance with Representative Charlie Rangel at a Harlem food bank in 2010, Big Government reports. The event occurred after Rangel was censured by the House of Representatives for hiding income from the IRS for 17 years. At the time, Shulman told the New York Post, “I work closely with him every day, and I’m honored to be on this stage with him.”
Shulman stepped down from his position as IRS Commissioner in November 2012, before the IRS confirmed allegations that Tea Party and other conservative nonprofits were targeted for extra scrutiny. In a hearing before the Senate last month, Shulman said “I certainly am not personally responsible for creating a list that had inappropriate criteria on it…I very much regret that it happened on my watch.”
