Egyptian military forces clashed with supporters of deposed President Mohammed Morsi on Friday, reportedly killing at least 30 people and wounding hundreds. Three were reported dead in front of the Republican Guard building in Cairo where Morsi is believed to be under house arrest, when police fired on demonstrators. In the town of Beni Suef, protesters hung a portrait of Morsi on the town gate after chasing out the military governor. Elsewhere, violence broke out between Islamists and opponents of the Muslim Brotherhood.
In front of a crowd of Morsi’s supporters in Cairo, the Muslim Brotherhood’s supreme leader Mohammed Badie said, ”God make Morsi victorious and bring him back to the palace…We are his soldiers we defend him with our lives.” Badie and other leading figures in the Muslim Brotherhood were detained shortly after Morsi was removed from power, but Badie denies that he was arrested.
