“Superticket” Trend Becoming The Norm?

First it was World War Z.

Now the upcoming Pacific Rim (a shoe-in for the summer’s worst title) is following suit. Canada’s largest distributor Cineplex Entertainment has announced it will charge moviegoers $19.99 (thanks for the penny) per ticket to Guillermo del Toro‘s new action film.

The $20… excuse us- $19.99 ticket will ensure the attendee admission, a digital version of the film ahead of its official release, and exclusive content online.

The announcement of yet another price increase comes on the heels of a prediction by legends Steven Spielberg and George Lucas that the industry is pricing itself out of business, and begs the question:

Whatever happened to simply going to a movie without breaking the bank?
